The Lagos State Government says residents need to be more safety conscious as the state prepares for the hamattan period so as to avert disaster.

Special Adviser to the Governor on Communities and Communications, Kehinde Bamigbetan said this at the monthly interactive session organized by the Ministry of Local Government and Community Affairs for Community Development Committee, CDCs, Community Development Associations, CDAs with other Stakeholders in the State which was held at the Lagos Island Local Government Secretariat in Lagos.

According to him, residents must be more safety conscious in handling electrical and technology appliances, as such equipment, if not properly handled could cause fire outbreak and other disasters which could lead to loss of lives and destruction of valuable goods.

Bamigbetan commended the efforts of the state government on safety awareness campaigns through its agencies at the various Local Government level and implored the residents to support the State’s developmental plans and projects for sustainable infrastructural development.

The representative of the Director, Lagos State Fire Service, Mr Adeshina Semiu urged the residents to be careful in handling electronic appliances, noting that majority of fire disasters, except the natural disasters such as earthquake and volcanic eruption, were caused by carelessness of individuals.

He appealed to residents to have fire detector and extinguisher in places such as houses, offices and vehicles for use in case there is any fire outbreak as first aids equipment if the fire is just minor or call the emergency free toll lines 112 or 767

The Director of Project, Motor Vehicle Administration Agency, Mr Tunde Onigbanjo, however, urged the residents to patronize any of the MVAA centres across the State for any vehicle documentd, adding that they should stop patronizing touts in renewing their motor vehicle documents which is under the criminal acts.

He disclosed that the agency had opened a centre at Oto-Awori for easy access to obtaining vehicular documents for residents and its environs.

Senior Special Assistant to the Governor on Community Affairs, Alhaji Tajudeen Quadri, said that the state government would not rest in its developmental programmes that would be of benefit to the people and implored residents go support of the hovernment to tackle any environmental issues.

The Executive Chairman, Lagos Island Local Government, Adetoyese Olusi, implored the CDCs and CDAs to imbibe the benefits of the interactive session and replicate it in their respective communities.
