Female Accountant Sent to Prison For Stealing Employer’s N500,000

An accountant with N.W.MPH International Nigeria Limited, Lagos, Happiness Usoh, 26, has been arrested and arraigned before a Lagos State Magistrate Court for allegedly stealing the sum of N500,000 belonging to her employer.

The accused, a resident of 3rd avenue, Festac town, Lagos, from Akwa-Ibom State, South-South Nigeria was arrested on the order of the Assistant Inspector General of Police, AIG, in charge of Zone II Command, Lagos, Adamu Ibrahim following a petition by her employer, Chief Godwin Ulom.

The accused was arraigned before an Igbosere Magistrate Court on a one count charge of felony to wit.Stealing.

Police prosecutor, DSP Eshiet Eshiet informed the court in charge No. G/53/2017 that the accused committed the alleged offence on 7 June, 2017 at Festac Town, Lagos.

Eshiet told the court that the complainant entrusted the sum of N500, 000 in the care of the accused to pay to a customer, but that the accused failed to give the money to the customer and instead converted the money to her personal use.

He said that the offence the accused committed was punishable under section 287 of the criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015.

The accused pleaded not guilty and Magistrate Owunmi granted her bail in the N100, 000 with two sureties in like sum.

Owunmi adjourned the case till 29 September, 2017 for mention and ordered that the defendant be remanded at the Kirikiri prison, Apapa, pending when she is able to perfect her bail conditions.
