The Gumel Local Government Council in Jigawa on Saturday said it would expend N655, 000 to fumigate the nooks and crannies of the area to stem malaria and control its spread.

The Council’s Information Officer, Malam Sulaiman Usman, disclosed this in Dutse.

Usman said that the Chairman of the council, Alhaji Aminu Sani, announced the budget while flagging-off the week-long exercise in Gumel on Friday.

He explained that the fumigation would be conducted in homes, markets, schools and other strategic locations, to rid communities of mosquito breeding spots.

The spokesman added that the exercise was to destroy the mosquito larvae and to also stem the spread of malaria in the area.

According to him, the council boss appealed to residents to cooperate with the fumigators, for a smooth and successful conduct of the exercise.

Usman said the chairman also urged residents to ensure that they covered their food, water and all other edibles, throughout the duration of the exercise.

He said the council’s Head of Water Sanitation and Hygiene (HOD WASH), Alhaji Muhammad Hassan, said the council had procured appropriate chemicals and kits, for the exercise.

Usman said the Chairman of the council’s Councillors Forum, Alhaji Yahaya Muhammad, also commended the council for the effort to contain the spread of malaria and enhance healthcare delivery in the area.
