An Imo lawmaker, Mr Prince Egu, has called on youths in the country to be focused and shun authors of hate speech.

Egu, who represents Ngor Okpala Constituency in the State House of Assembly, gave the advice while addressing newsmen in Abuja on the sidelines of the launch of a book, entitled:“Blood at Noon’’.

The book is authored by a youth, Nnaemeka Okere.

Egu said he was excited that a youth like Okere could sit down and write a book on the consequences and pains of the Nigerian civil war.

“I want to encourage youths to follow the example of Okere and be focused on positive things. They should also shun hate speech.

“They should shun things that can cause trouble in the country. If you want power to be handed over to you, you must show some examples.

Youths should be positive minded,’’ he said.

The lawmaker, who said he was averse to hate speech, noted that it could incite the people to unleash violence on the country.

According to Egu, dialogue remains the best way of resolving any conflict either national or local conflicts.

“If there is an agitation and the youths are complaining, it should be looked into properly because when the people you are leading are complaining then there is a problem somewhere.”
