The Catholic Bishop of Nsukka Diocese, Most Rev. Godfrey Onah, on Saturday ordained 16 priests and urged them to always pray in order to overcome trials and tribulations.

Onah gave the advice in his homily at the ordination Mass at St Theresa’s Catholic Cathedral Nsukka in Enugu State.

He said there was so much temptation in the world and even in the church, adding “the only weapon to overcome temptation is constant prayer.

“As you are ordained priests today, satan and his agents are not happy that you are going to preach the gospel of salvation that will bring lost souls back to Jesus Christ.

“So, the greatest weapon to defeat satan and his agent is constant prayers,’’ he said.

The bishop urged the priests to remember the love, favour and mercy of God in their lives and imbibe the virtue of humility.

“Focus on God and shun tendency for material wealth acquisition and avoid unchaste acts that will bring the name of God and the Catholic Church in dishonor,’’ he said.

He commended parents, guardians and the church for their financial and moral support to the newly ordained priests to achieve their dream of becoming Catholic priests.

“Parents know these priests still need your financial and moral support so do not demand much money from them to avoid putting pressure that will lead them to fall into sin.

“Also, remember that you gave them as gift to God so allow them to work for God with all their hearts and their strength,” Onah said.
