No fewer than 30 cadet and junior table tennis player on Friday benefited from the Funke Oshonaike Foundation (FOF) in the ongoing Seamaster ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open, holding in Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos.

Nigeria’s foreign-based table tennis player Funke Oshonaike, owner of the foundation told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Lagos that the objective was to encourage young players.

Oshonaike who plays in Poppenbuttel Club, Hamburg, Germany distributed t-shirts, rubber, balls and bats to all the U-21 players that featured in the championships.

“It is just my little way of saying welldone to our upcoming players because they are doing well and I deem it necessary to let them know that I am behind them.

“At least they are happy and that alone gladdens my heart, because among these young players are the Aruba Quadris’, Funke Oshonaike, and host of champions’,” she said.

Tosin Oribamise, one of the beneficiaries told NAN that she was delighted over the gift and applauded Oshonaike for identifying with the junior players and for the gifts.

Rofiat Jimoh also expressed joy after she got the gift, while applauding the Nigeria Table Tennis Federation for organising the tournament.

“I am happy being part of this championship, maybe if I was not here, I wouldn’t have the opportunity to get my own t-shirt and ball.”

NAN reports that the Seamaster ITTF Challenge Nigeria Open holding in Molade Okoya Thomas Hall, Teslim Balogun Stadium, Lagos, has 22 countries participating for the $46, 000 dollars prize money.
