Lagos celebrates 2017 International Youth Day

Lagos State Government on Thursday joined the rest of the world to celebrate the 2017 edition of the International Youth Day with a promise to continually provide opportunity for the discovery of inherent talents among the youth.

Speaking at the opening session of the week long event at the Onikan Youth centre, Lagos, the Commissioner for Youth and Social Development, Uzamat Akinbile-Yusuf said that the Ministry leveraged on the opportunity of the celebration to unravel the numerous talents in the youth of the State.

She added that providing opportunity for the youth to display their God-given talents through a Talent-Hunt show can assist in discovering untapped talents and skills among the youths, assuring that the Ministry will continue assist the youths to nurture their potentials.

“We know that Lagos youths are intelligent, they have what it takes to rule the world, all what they need is the atmosphere that would allow them bring these skills to bare and that is the vacuum the Ministry is filling” she stated.

She used the ocassion to warn youths in the State to shun all forms of vices and re-examine themselves to discover their inherent abilities that can fetch them fortunes.

The Commissioner added that the Ministry was also planning to hold a self-discovery and talent hunt training programme for the participants at the event and other interested youths in the State.

She explained that the training would expose the youths to how they could improve on their performances and also equip them with the right information and skills that would make them compete favourably with other professionals in their talented areas .

There were performance in music, dance, poetry, drama and visual art by the participants at the Talent Hunt.

It should be noted that International Youth Day is usually celebrated across the world on every 12th of August. The theme for year 2017 is “Youth Building Peace.”
