The Yobe Government on Wednesday distributed plots of land, building materials and N9.2 million to 307 Internally Displaced Persons (IDPs) who opted to settle permanently at Kukareta village in Damaturu Local Government Area.
Gov. Ibrahim Gaidam while presenting the IDPs with the Land Certificates, building materials and N30,000 to each of the 307 beneficiaries in Kukareta, said the gesture was to support those who indicated interest to settle at village.
The governor who was represented by his Deputy, Abubakar Aliyu, said, “the distribution of 307 plots of land and building materials such as block, zinc, nails, cement and timber, is to support the IDPs to build houses and settle in their new community.”
He said the support was “informed by the fact that, we cherish the fundamental human rights of the people and the constitutional provisions that guarantee citizens’ right to live wherever they want to live.”

The government assured that it would provide additional health clinics, water facilities and schools to augment the existing facilities in the village.
Gaidam solicited for more partnership with humanitarian agencies in the recovery plan by the state government to rehabilitate the communities.
The Deputy Governor who doubles as Chairman, Post Insurgency Resettlement, Rehabilitation and Reconstruction Committee, will coordinate the resettlement of the beneficiaries.
“The state currently has less than 2,000 IDPs at the official camp at Pompomari with more others at self-set camps situated in Muhammadu Gombe’s farm, Fuguri, Ngaburuwa, Kukareta and Abbari,” Gaidam said.
Some of the beneficiaries appreciated the government’s gesture, and as well thanked Non-governmental Organisations (NGOs) and the host community “for making us to recover our lives with dignity”.
Bukar Ballumi, a displaced person from Borno, said “we have enjoyed our stay here in Kukareta since our displacement by the insurgents in Borno and, we have now decided to settle here permanently.”
Most of the IDPs in Kukareta are from Damboa Local Government Area of Borno, while few others hailed from Gujba Local Government Area of Yobe.
