The T. Y. Danjuma Foundation (TYDF), in collaboration with the Federal Ministry of Health, will provide free surgery to indigent residents of Ebonyi.
Dr Sunday Udo, the foundation Chief Executive Officer, made the disclosure when he visited the Minister of State for Health, Dr Ehanire Osagie, in Abuja.
Udo said in a statement issued by Mrs Boade Akinola, the Director, Media and Public Relations, Federal Ministry of Health, that the foundation was reaching out to no fewer than 100 indigenes with free surgeries in the state.
The project was designed by the foundation to support the drive of the ministry to improve the health and wellbeing of Nigerians,’’ Udo was quoted as saying.
He also appealed to the ministry to provide the foundation with technical support for the medical mission.
Udo solicited the ministry’s support in the identification of indigent residents and as well facilitate meeting with the authorities of Federal Medical Centre, Abakaliki.

He said that the foundation sought the assistance of the ministry to facilitate a meeting with the state Commissioner for Health and other stakeholders to drive the intervention to fruition.
Also, the minister while receiving members of the foundation, commended them for the Free Surgical Mission to Ebonyi, describing it as a service to humanity.
“This pilot project is a welcome development. I assure you of the Federal Government’s support to make the free surgical mission to Ebonyi successful,’’ he said.
In his remarks, Dr Adebimpe Adebiyi, the Director of Family Health in the ministry, said that the proposed health intervention was in line with the ministry’s Rapid Result Initiative for Better Health.
Adebiyi said that the proposed 100 indigent people were not enough, appealing to the foundation to increase the number to accommodate more people in the state.
