The Lagos State Government says it is set to urgently rehabilitate 43 dilapidated roads across the metropolis in a bid to reduce traffic gridlock.

Special Adviser to the Governor and Chief Executive Officers, Public Works Corporation, PWC, Engr. Temidayo Erinle disclosed this on Sunday at a news conference held in Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria.

He said the raining season had slowed down the pace of road rehabilitations across the state, but noted that the PWC was currently carrying out palliative works on major roads through the application of boulders, crushed stones and other construction materials to address the potholes problems in order not to paralyse the economic activities of the state.

Erinle stated that in few days to come, the corporation would be carrying out major rehabilitation works on 43 roads in the metropolis.

Some of the roads are: Alfred Rewane Raod, Ikoyi; Ojota Interchange transiting the ramps on both directions; Sina Ogunbanwo Street; Club Road, off Osborne Road, Ikoyi; Oroke Drive, Ikoyi; Central Avenue, North Avenue and Maybin Road in Apapa; Lateef Jakande Road, Ikeja; Gberibe Road, TOS Benson Road, Ikorodu; Hospital Road, Badagry; Liverpool, Apapa; Kirikiri Road, Ojo Road, College Road, Ojo; Baale Road, Oba Akran Avenue, among others.

On drainage and channelization, Erinle said due to the fact that the state experienced massive flooding in recent time, the government had divided the state into five zones in a bid to curtail flood challenges.

The zones, he said, included Alimosho, Ikeja, Mushin, Kosofe, Agege, Ifako-Ijaiye, Oshodi-Isolo and Somolu under zone one; Ajeromi, Amuwo Odofin, Ojo and Badagry under zone two; Ikorodu under zone three; Apapa, Surulere, Lagos Island, Mainlan and Eti-Osa under zone four and Ibeju Lekki and Epe under zone five.

He said in each of the zones, dredging of primary channels and outfalls as well as clearing and cleaning of collector and tertiary drains were carried out.

The special adviser added that the recent Lagos State Drainage Master Plan effectively covered the entire state, saying that the state was divided into four main regions for easy study, which included Badagry, Lagos metropolis, Lekki and Epe.

Erinle said the corporation would not rest on its oars to ensure that Lagosians continued to enjoy pot-hole free roads and drastic reduction in the incidence of flooding in Lagos State.
