A legal luminary, Gbenga Oyebode mentored thousands of students from tertiary institutions in Lagos at the weekend during the ongoing training organised by the Lagos State Government, tagged: Read, Set, Work, RSW.
RSW is an entrepreneurial and employability programme targeted at equipping graduating students to excel in their chosen field of endeavours.
The programme, which is engaging 2,000 final year students from some State and Federal governments owned tertiary institutions in Lagos State is taking place simultaneously in three centres across the State.
Oyebode, who spoke at one of the centres at Lagos State Polytechnic, Ikorodu charged the students to see change as an opportunity to excel in life, and also urged the youths to identify with the right role model that would shape their future for the better.
He said change would bring about personal growth, flexibility, improvement of life values, strength, progress, new beginning, excellence, among others.
“Without change, people will lose their competitive edge. If people are to remain relevant, they must adapt to change.
He listed ways of adapting to change to include: welcoming failure, adding feedback loops, working smarter, being process focused, promoting accountability, downplaying power, among others.
However, Oyebode described the RSW initiative as exemplary module and called on other States of the Federation to emulate Lagos to equip the nation’s human resource base to be at par with leading countries in the international community.
The legal practitioner also described the interests shown by the students participating in the programme as very encouraging.
Five weeks into the 13-week programme, many of the participants said they have already gained a lot from the programme which they described as challenging, but very informative.
The programme, which is in its second year is also catering to the needs of 10,000 students in their penultimate years in the participating institutions.
