Driver Nabbed For Knocking Down Motorcyclist

A 30-year-old driver, Busari Akeem, who allegedly drove his car recklessly and knocked down a motorcyclist, on Monday appeared before an Osogbo Chief Magistrates’ Court.

Akeem, who is facing a four-count charge bordering on dangerous driving and manslaughter, was released on N100, 000 bail.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Oladoye Joshua told the court that the accused committed the offences on Jan. 8 at 10.00 a.m. at Kabelo Filling Station area in Osogbo.

Joshua alleged that the accused drove a Toyota Corolla car with registration no. AAA 815 EM recklessly and killed a motorcyclist, Ibrahim Abdullahi.

“The deceased was riding an unregistered Honda motorcycle when he was knocked down by Akeem.”

The offences contravened Sections 18(1), 27, and 7(1) of the Road Transport Act, Laws of Osun, 2003.

The accused pleaded not guilty and his lawyer, Mr Sunday Atofarati, urged the court to grant him bail on liberal terms.

In her ruling, Magistrate Olubukola Awodele granted the accused bail in the sum of N100,000 with two sureties in like sum.

She said the sureties must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and also produce evidence of tax payment to the government.

The case was adjourned until Aug. 25 for mention.
