Alhaji Fatai Kolawole, the Permanent Secretary, Osun State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB) on Wednesday said the state government had expanded over N6 billion to provide infrastructure in the state basic education sector.
Kolawola while granting an interview to the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Osogbo said, the state government had invested massively in terms of basic education development in the state, which comprises elementary and middle schools.
He said the state basic schools, which comprises of primary one to six class and junior secondary class one to three, were given special attention by the state government because they formed the foundation of knowledge and education for the students
According to him, “the state government had invested more than N6 billion in terms of providing school infrastructure in the state for basic schools in the last six years.”

“The government has built mega schools that have the capacity of taking 1,000 students in the urban centres like Ilesha, Osogbo, Ife, Iwo and other locations for easy enrollment of students from the larger population.
“Similarly, schools that can take up to 500 and 400 students, 50 students per class, were also built across the state, especially in rural and semi-rural areas, according to the population of these communities.
“The state government had also rehabilitated and renovated a large number of schools across the state and in adherence to UNESCO standard, teachers in these schools are in the ratio of one teacher to 25 students,” he said.
He also said ICT rooms with 20 to 50 computers were created in these schools, while working materials, furniture, diaries and registers were equally supplied to the schools.
He said the state government has spent and invested so much in school infrastructure and that the management of the basic education by SUBEB had been a success story.
