The Standard Organisation of Nigeria (SON) on Tuesday presented the Nigeria Industrial Standard (NIS) Certificate to Uniuyo Consult of Univerity of Uyo for its brand of table water.

Uniuyo Consult produces a brand of table water for sale.

Prof. Enefiok Essien, the University Vice Chancellor, received the award on behalf of Uniuyo Consult.

Mr Meshailia Dauda, the Akwa Ibom Coordinator of SON, while presenting the certificate, advised Uniuyo to always maintain the high quality as certified by SON.

Dauda, represented by Mrs Imo Udom, a Senior Inspection Officer in the agency, said that Uniuyo Table Water had continually met the required standard before the certificate was issued.

He urged the company not to deviate from the NIS standard for table water or else the certificate would be withdrawn.

“The standard must be met; not just once or twice, but must be continually met to the standard before our certificate is given out.

“I want to say that Uniuyo table water has met the requirements continuously for over the time we come here to check them.

“Not just the quality of the water alone, but we have gone round the facilities, we have checked, starting from raw materials to the quality control.

“I am here to tell you that they have continuously met the standard,” Dauda said.

According to him, a few table water companies in the state have met the standard and were issued the NIS certificate.

He said that SON would not relent in ensuring that only NIS certified brands of table water were allowed to enter the market.

Dauda, however, warned that the certificate issued to Uniuyo consult was only for the table water and not for any other product of the company.

“The certification we have for this company is just for the bottled water, the sachets are not inclusive.

“The sachets will wait until we attest to the nylon and the package materials for the sachet water before it can be certified.

“The certification does not mean that SON will not continue to monitor the quality of the table water. The certificate will last for three years before its renewal,’’ he explained.

In his response, the Vice Chancellor, Prof. Enefiok Essien, who received the certificate assured SON and the consumers that the high quality of table water produced by the university would be sustained.

Essien said that the Uniuyo Consult would soon invite SON for the quality check on the sachet water for its certification.

He promised that as a citadel of academic excellence, the university would ensure high quality in all products produced by Uniuyo Consult.

Mrs Okon Saviour, a distributor of the bottled water, told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that Uniuyo brand had become a brand name, saying: “The water is not just for drinking, but to drink and live.”

Saviour said that her customers were pleased with the table water and advised the organisation to maintain the high-quality standard.
