Operatives of the Lagos State Task Force have arrested two people for impersonating the Assistant Inspector General of Police, A.I.G. (Zone 2), Mr. Adamu Ibrahim over the release of a forfeited unregistered motorcycle.

Olayinka Egbeyemi, Chairman of the Lagos State Task Force disclosed that the unregistered motorcycle was impounded and the rider subsequently charged to court for plying Mushin-Oshodi Express Road, which is one of the 475 restricted routes for motorcycle riders.

He said Magistrate Lateef Owolabi of the Lagos State Mobile Court in Oshodi ordered the forfeiture of the motorcycle to government while the rider,  Mohammed Aliyu was sentenced to a 6-hour community service after pleading guilty to the one count charge levelled against him.

Egbeyemi said investigations revealed that it was after the rider completed the 6-hour community service and was subsequently released by court officials that he went to engaged one Mr Sadiku Alaraman who claimed to know Adamu Ibrahim (A.I.G Zone 2) to assist him to get his forfeited motorcycle released by the government.

After an unsuccessful attempts to convinced the Coordinator, Lagos State Mobile Court, Oluwafemi Alabi through a phone call from someone who feigned to be the A.I.G (Zone 2), they went to the Lagos State Motorcycle Dump Site’ at Ojota.

“Inspector Gambo Aich, who is the officer in charge of the Lagos State Motorcycles Dump Site was also deceived by both Mohammed Aliyu and Sadiku Alaraman to have spoken on phone with the same person who impersonated the A.I.G (Zone II) and ordered him to release the forfeited motorcycle immediately, but he insisted that they must get a clearance from the government”

Inspector Gambo Aich however reported the matter and both men were arrested and paraded before the A.I.G (zone 2), Mr. Adamu Ibrahim, who denied knowing them.

Ibrahim, not only denied knowing both men but ordered for their arraignment in court.

The Commissioner of Police, Fatai Owoseni directed  Olayinka Egbeyemi to get both Aliyu and Alaraman prosecuted for impersonation.

Magistrate Odusanya Adepeju of the Ogba Area Magistrate Court however convicted and sentenced both men to six weeks imprisonment with N10,000 as an option of fine.

The Prosecuting Counsel, Olumide Ajibola said the judgement was delivered after they both pleaded guilty to the one count charged of Impersonating the AIG.
