The Oba of Ikorodu in Lagos State, Oba Kabiru Shotobi, on Saturday urged the youth to support democracy with participation and peaceful conduct in elections.
The royal father made the appeal after voting in the local government elections in Lagos State.
Shotobi cast his vote in Ward B in Ikorodu Central LCDA.
He said that youths would be leaders in the future and should participate actively in elections.
Shotobi described the council elections as free and fair.
The royal father hailed the Lagos State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) for efforts in conducting the polls.
He also hailed the state Gov. Akinwunmi Ambode for the laudable achievement in the last two years, particularly with community development.
Shotobi also thanked Ambode for outlawing land grabbing.
Mrs Abike Dabiri-Erewa, Senior Special Assistant to the President on Foreign Affairs and Diaspora, also described the election as free and fair.
Dabiri, who cast her vote in Ikorodu, told journalists that local government elections were critical to grassroots development.
Mr Sanai Agunbiade, Majority Leader, Lagos State House of Assembly, hailed voters for coming out in spite of early morning heavy rainfall.
Agunbiade also appealed to the youth to participate in elections and vote for credible candidates for good governance.
The lawmaker cast his vote at Ward F in Ikorodu Central LCDA.
The Deputy Chairman of APC in Lagos State, Cardinal James Odunmbaku, who cast his vote at Ward E, Polling Unit 031, Ojodu LCDA, said that the elections would be successful.
“Since 1999, l have never lost an election in my polling booth,’’ he told the News Agency of Nigeria at his polling booth.
Odunmbaku hoped that APC would win the elections.
The Chairman of the National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW), Lagos Chapter, Alhaji Tajudeen Agbede, also expressed satisfaction with the election conduct in an interview with NAN.
Agbede voted at Polling Unit 008, Ward C at Ayo-Alabi , Ogba, Ojodu LCDA.
“I am happy with the turnout of voters; I am awaiting a credible result,” he said.
Meanwhile, counting of votes and collation is ongoing in several areas of the state.
