Mrs Rosemary Otikpa, the Anambra Coordinator, Teachers Registration Council of Nigeria (TRCN), on Friday, disclosed that the council had registered no fewer than 29, 000 teachers in the state.

Otikpa made this disclosure in Awka.

The TRCN official said that those of them, who missed the registration exercise would have to sit for an examination.

“So far, we have registered more than 29,000 teachers in the primary, secondary and tertiary institutions across the state and their certificates are ready for collection.

“Others, who failed to register will sit for a test and only those who pass the test will receive our certificate, unlike those who complied with the regulation by registering and getting the certificate without any examination,” she said.

According to Otikpa, teachers stand to gain a lot by having their names in our register and having a certificate that is internationally recognised to show for the profession.

“Only the duly registered teachers can benefit from the council in terms of receiving a professional letter, which foreign schools recognise.

“Registered teachers benefit from Teachers Salary Structure (TSS), which we enforce on some private schools, and we are packaging a workshop for teachers with TRCN number and we will give them incentives,” she said.

After the expiration of the deadline for teachers to register with the council, presently there are more than 250 teachers, who have not registered and will have to sit for the examination.
