Deji Elumoye: chairman Lagos NUJ

The Lagos Council of The Nigerian Union of Journalists (NUJ), Lagos Council, said on Monday that its Guest House building project had reached 95 per cent completion.

The Chairman of the Council, Mr Deji Elumoye, made this known in Lagos.

“The Lagos NUJ two storey building complex under construction at Adeola Street, Somolu, Lagos was conceived some four, five years ago.

“The project is over 90 per cent completed.

“We tried as much as possible to look at the need to increase the revenue base of the Lagos State council of the NUJ because before now, the only source of revenue is our four storey building at the Light House in Victoria Island.

“But in the last few years, we have concentrated much of all what was coming from the Light House into the Somolu project.

“As we speak we have spent over N85 million on the project and all hands are on deck to ensure we inaugurate it in August.

“It is a 20 room guest house ensuite. We want to give it to event and hotel managers who will manage it well.

“And it will bring a lot of money to the council.

“The major challenge since we did the ground breaking ceremony four years was fund, if we had fund we would have finished in one year.’’

The chairman said that in order to save cost, the project was executed via direct labour with the supervision of building experts.

According to him, this put the total estimated cost of the project including furnishing at about N130 million.
