INEC creates additional 8 voter registration centres in Oyo

To enable more Nigerians obtain voter’s card under the Continuous Voters Registration exercise, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has created eight additional registration centres in Oyo State.

Mr Surajudeen Junaid, the acting Secretary of INEC in the state, said this in a statement in Ibadan on Friday.

Junaid said the commission took the decision after critical assessment of the ongoing exercise and in response to the genuine request of eligible Nigerians.

He said the additional centres approved are Ayun Community Grammar School in Akinyele Local Government Area, Bishop Philip Academy in Egbeda Local Government and Emmanuel College of Theology at Samonda, Ibadan North Local Government Area.

Others are Baptist Secondary School at Oke-Ado, Ibadan South West Local Government Area, Igangan town hall at Igangan, Ibarapa North Local Government Area and Olomi Primary School 11 in Oluyole Local Government Area.

The rest are Aba Araba in Ido Local Government Area and Oko town hall in Surulere Local Government Area.

The acting secretary enjoined qualified Nigerians residing in areas where the centres were to make use of the opportunity.

He, however, warned against double registration, saying it still remains an electoral offence.

The registration exercise commenced across the country on April 27 while 43,963 new voters had been registered in the state as at June 27.

They were made up of 23,829 males and 20,134 females.
