UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF) has commenced 2017 mid-year review and 2018 planning meeting for states supported by the fund.

Dr Abdulai Kaikai, the Chief of Field Office, UNICEF Nigeria in Bauchi State, said at the meeting with stakeholders in Yola on Wednesday that the review of UNICEF-supported activities from January to June was to appraise progress made and challenges encountered.

Kaikai said the meeting was also a forum to start preparations for 2018, taking into consideration the welfare of women and children.

While noting that states involved were the major stakeholders in UNICEF projects, Kaikai said the fund would continue to guide them in executing the projects.

The Deputy Governor of Adamawa, Mr Martins Babale, who declared the meeting open, lauded UNICEF for its series of intervention in critical sectors and assured it of Adamawa Government support.

Babale noted that the latest support of health equipment worth N1.2 billion to Adamawa by the European Union (EU) through UNICEF would go a long way in transforming the sector.

He said “Adamawa State Government under the leadership of `Gov. Muhammadu Bindow declared a state of emergency on healthcare delivery at both primary and secondary levels and the support is given to the state by UNICEF is in line with
the state’s Strategic Health Development Plan.”
