Chimamanda Adichie is 1st Nigerian to win Mary McCarthy Award

Acclaimed writer, Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie, has become the first Nigerian to be presented with the Mary McCarthy Award. She received it during her visit to the liberal arts institution, Bard College in New York, earlier this month.

The author has a vast number of awards to her name and was awarded the Mary McCarthy Award for her exceptional books and persona of being a feminist and avid critic also.

Adichie began her writing career back in 1997 with Decisions, a poetry collection and her most recent work Dear Ijeawele, Or a Feminist Manifesto in Fifteen Suggestions was published back in March.

The award honours the former Bard College Faculty member, late Mary McCarthy and it is the third award Chimamanda has received from an American institutions, the previous being William and Haverford College respectively.
