A total of 12,000 students of tertiary institutions in Lagos State will be engaged in the second edition of the Lagos State Government’s ‘Ready Set Work,’ RSW programme.

The RSW is an entrepreneurship and employability initiative of the State Ministry of Education aimed at equipping graduating students with work ethics to enable them to excel in their chosen careers.

Addressing students at a sensitization programme at the Lagos State University, LASU, in Ojo, Lagos, Southwest Nigeria on Monday, the Special Adviser to the Governor on Education, Obafela Bank-Olemoh said the 12,000 participants in this edition of the programme would be selected from the State government owned tertiary institutions and the University of Lagos, unlike the first edition which was limited to only State owned institutions.

According to Bank-Olemoh, 2,000 out of the 12,000 participants would be selected from final year students of the participating institutions.

He said the sensitization programme would be taken to the remaining institutions to prepare the students and enable them to meet the eligibility criteria.

Harping on the reasons for the establishment of the programme, Bank-Olemoh noted that feedbacks from the inaugural set showed positive increase in the employability qualities of graduates which were rated as poor by many organizations prior to the RSW.

The special adviser charged the students to remain focused and imbibe the various work ethics, particularly timeliness and discipline, which the RSW would teach them.

In his remarks, LASU Vice-Chancellor, Professor Olanrewaju Fagbohun noted that the RSW had enhanced the profile of both the students, and that of participating institutions.

Under the programme, the participants will pass through a 13-week intensive training, in which they would learn how to write viable business plans, professional conducts and value-adding services as employees or entrepreneurs, while the successful participants will get internship placements in reputable companies and institutions in the second stage of the programme.

The programme will hold for 13 Saturdays starting 24th June, 2017. Classes will hold on LASU Main Campus and the campuses of two other participating institutions.
