Osibanjo signs N7.441 trillion budget into Law

Nigeria’s Acting President, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo on Monday signed the 2017 budget of N7.441 trillion into law.

The Acting President signed the budget into law inside the Presidential Villa, Abuja at around 4:41pm.

Principal government officials of the National Assembly. presidential aides and other top government officials witnessed the signing of the budget six months into the year.

The Acting president said his signing of the budget was a milestone in the implementation of the economic and growth plan programme put in place by Buhari in April.

According to him, the processes of putting the budget in place had been smoother than that of 2016 with no allegations of errors.

Osibanjo said there were far few cases of acrimony unlike in the past, adding that there was no doubt at all that the nation’s democracy was maturing very well.

President Muhammadu Buhari had given Osinbajo, the go ahead to sign the 2017 budget into law.

Buhari, in a letter addressed to Budget Minister, Udoma Udo Udoma said  it was in the interest of the nation’s economy for the Acting President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, to sign the 2017  Appropriation Bill into law.

Buhari wrote the letter  to Senator Udoma Udo Udoma, according to a statement by Garba Shehu, the senior special assistant to the president on the media and publicity.

Buhari, who is recuperating in London said he had received a full briefing  on the Appropriation Bill as passed by the National Assembly.

To  buttress the unity at the highest level of government, he said he was yielding his signatory authority  to Osinbajo.
