The Benin Monarch, Oba Ewuare II has admonished the leadership of the Economic and Financial Crime Commission (EFCC), to focus more on detailed​ investigation on matters brought before it, than indiscriminate clamp down on their suspect.

The Monarch who gave the admonision when he played host to the Benin Zonal Head of the Commission, Mr. Mailafia Yakubu, in his palace on Friday, also cautioned the Commission against being used as agent of intimidation and witch hunting.

He noted that many Nigerians were eager to see corrupt individuals and organizations being prosecuted  and convicted to serve as deterrent to others, adding that if some of the abnormalities within the practice of the Commission were corrected, the  country would witness greater economic and socio-political  growth and development.

The royal father who appreciated efforts made by the Commission in recovering looted funds for the country, further advised their officials not to be used as agent of vendetta.

Earlier in his speech, the Zonal Head of the EFCC, Mr. Yakubu, said he was at the palace to inform the Monarch of the formal opening of the Commission’s Zonal office in Benin, comprising of Edo, Delta, Anambra and Ondo States.
