Mr Oliver Osi, a member of Ebonyi State House of Assembly, says the 8th Assembly performed creditably.

Osi, who represents Ivo Constituency, said on Thursday in Abakaliki, that the members of the 8th Ebonyi Assembly represented their constituencies effectively.

“The House will mark two years of inauguration of the 8th Ebonyi Assembly, and I am happy to inform you that the House has fared well in the discharge of the legislative duties.

“The House has passed important bills, including the state’s Environmental Law, the EBSIEC Law 001, the Primary Health Care Act, among others that were signed into law by the governor for the effective running of the state.

“The 8th Assembly has ensured the timely passage of the appropriation bill in the two years of its existence.

“There is massive infrastructure and human development programmes through the constituency development projects in all the state constituencies.

“My constituents have benefitted from my credible and effective representation, through the provision of basic amenities, youth empowerment programmes, and award of university scholarships to indigent students of the area.

“We are committed to enhancing the welfare and wellbeing of our people through effective representation.

“I am commending my constituents for their unflinching support and cooperation and we promise to do more in the areas of human empowerment and infrastructure development,” Osi said.

The legislator, who described representative democracy as the best form of government, said that there was no credible alternative to democracy and called for sustenance of democratic rule in the country.

“There is no credible alternative to representative democracy as it remains the best form of government that allows the people to participate not only in choosing their elected representatives but also take part in governance.

“I appeal to our people to show more support and respect to leaders at various levels of political authority to ensure even and rapid human empowerment and infrastructure development,” he added.

He commended the existing harmonious relationship between the Ebonyi 8th Assembly and the executive arm of government.
