Lagos committed to making education accessible to children - Abass

Lagos State government will not relent in its efforts at making basic education accessible to children in a conducive environment to enhance cognitive development irrespective of the social status, says Professor Ademola Abass, Special Adviser, Office of Overseas Affairs & Investment (Lagos Global).

Abass spoke when he represented Governor Akinwunmi Ambode at the commissioning of the newly rehabilitated blocks of classrooms, toilets, offices and stores at L.G Primary School, Noforija, Epe and Home Economics Centre, St. Theresa Primary School, Epe Lagos.

The Special Adviser said it was the desire of this present administration to ensure all children, especially the ones in the primary schools, both public and private, had an enhanced environment conducive to learning for cognitive and emotional development.

He said, “Children are the future of any nation and so we cannot afford to neglect our responsibility of ensuring that basic infrastructural provisions are made available to stimulate their interest in learning and to enhance their innate potentials.

“Irrespective of the social status of children, it is an absolute responsibility of any government to ensure that children’s basic education is well established and sustained. Uneducated children of today will, in turn, become the unproductive youth of tomorrow, bringing much trouble to the society.

“Lagos State is committed to ensuring infrastructural development spreads across the various divisions for all Lagosian to benefit from. Commitment to the civic responsibility of tax payment facilitates what we are witnessing today. This administration is indeed interested in the overall wellbeing of all residents of Lagos State. Also, this commissioning is happening at the time Lagos celebrates 50 golden years and the second year of this current administration.”

Abass admonished all pupils and staff of the two schools to maintain the infrastructure so as to enjoy the benefits for much longer.
