The Lagos State Government says it has completed the construction of 83.92km of roads spread across the state in the last one year.

This was disclosed by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Works and Infrastructure, Engr. Temidayo Erinle during the Ministerial Press Briefing of the Ministry to commemorate the second year in office of Governor Akinwumi Ambode’s administration.

He said the completed 83.92 km of roads were spread around the three Senatorial districts of the State to ease movement of people and goods across the State.

Erinle stated that the State was presently undergoing construction of roads totalling 99.147 km in both the rural and urban areas of the State to complement the completed ones as the governor had approved the construction of more roads to ease traffic and improve on the economy of the State.

He added that the government, within the last one year completed five Pedestrian Bridges totalling 0.47 km while other three were ongoing at different locations.

Erinle stated that some of the completed roads within the last one year included the Ajah Flyover/upgrading of the Freedom road to Admiralty Road in Etis-osa Local Government; the flyover at Abule-Egba, upgrading of strategic arterial/inner roads in Epe; Ayetoro Road in Alimosho; Ishefun, Camp Davies New market roads in Alimosho as well as the Laybys and Slip roads at Ojodu Berger.

He listed the completed Pedestrian Bridges to include two in one at Ojodu Berger, the Anthony- Gbagada foot Bridge by TREM; the reconstruction of the Berger-Cement Pedestrian Bridge, the rehabilitation of Mile 12 Pedestrian Bridge and the construction of the Steel Bridge at Ojota to complement the existing one that remained insufficient due to the barrier on the road.

The permanent secretary also said that the Public Works Corporation worked on 807 roads within the State while it delivered over 532 roads and that the agency was still working on over 275 other roads.

According to him, Ambode had awarded the contract for some roads in the State, among which are: Rehabilitation/Upgrading of Ebute-Igbogbo road Phase 2; the Strategic Arterial/Inner roads in Epe Phase 2; the Dualisation of BisolaDurosimiEtti/Hakeem Dickson in Lekki; the Rehabilitation and maintenance of Lekki-Epe Expressway, Rehabilitation of Alhaji Akinwumi street, Mushin; upgrading of Obagun Avenue, Mushin; Dualisation of Irede Road in Amuwo-Odofin, construction of Aradagun-Iworo, AjidoEpeme Road with bridges in Badagry.

He said that the state is proposing to construct and rehabilitate important roads to serve as easy link for the citizens among which were: The Murtala Muhammad International Airport Road, Igbogbo-Igbe road in Ikorodu Local Government; Ilaje road and Odunsi in Shomolu; Agric-Isawo-Konu-Arepo to link Lagos-Badagry Expressway and the fourth Mainland Bridge, among others.

Erinle stated that in tandem with the ministry’s mandate in maintain public buildings in the State, it worked on such public buildings as Magistrate Courts in Ikeja, Badagry, Igbosere, Ajegunle, Ajah and other projects.
