DIG commends state police command crime reduction

The Deputy Inspector General of Police in charge of North West zone, DIG Maigari Dikko has commended Kano police command for drastic reduction of crime rate in the state.

The DIG made the commendation while addressing officers and men of the command at the police headquarters in Kano on Thursday.

He said he came to the state to assess and evaluate the performance of the command as well as ascertained if they were conforming with the Inspector-General’s mission and vision of community policing.

Dikko urged the command to continue to perform their duties according to the rule of law with transparency, accountability and partnering with the members of the community.

“The IG is seeing into the welfare skills of Police officers to improve their NHIS , retirement benefits and mass houses.

He added that the IG promised to build 500 houses instead of 100 in each state for police officers.

He explained that out of the 500 houses, 300 of them would be sold to the police personnel and 200 to the members of the state.

Earlier in his remarks, the Kano State Commissioner of Police, Mr Rabiu Yusuf, said the Kano command had made a remarkable achievment by arresting 100 suspected armed robbers from January  to date.

Yusuf said the total ammunition recovered by the command within the period under review were 21 round locally made ammunitions and six vehicles.

The Commissioner of Police said kidnapping, cattle rustlings and armed robbery had reduced drastically in the state

He noted that any suspect arrested for rape and culpable homicide would be paraded for the whole world to see them and to serve as deterrant to others.

”The anti-illicit drugs squad will be going round the state to ensure that the youth who are into illicit drugs are curtailed to minimise the cases of culpable homicide,” he said.

Yusuf, however, said that efforts had been made to sensitize members of the public to be vigilant in their environment.
