The Police Community Relation Committee (PCRC) in Nasarawa State has called on the police command to sustain its efforts on combating crime and criminality in the state.

Mr Ike Ndife, the PCRC Chairman, ‘B’ Division Mararaba, Karu Local Government Area of the state, made the appeal while presenting an award of “extraordinary performance’’ to the Commissioner of Police, Mr Abubakar Bello, on Wednesday in Lafia.

Ndife urged the police boss not to relent in his efforts in fighting criminal activities in Mararaba and the state at large.

He said that the committee decided to recognise Bello’s effort after assessing his performance in tackling armed robbery, kidnapping and other criminal activities in the state since his assumption in office in July 2016.

“Ever since the posting of the CP to Nasarawa State Police Command last year July 2016, it has been one success story to another thereby bringing the crime rate to its barest minimum.

“Armed robbers and fraudsters have not found it easy to carry out their activities.

“And even cattle rustlers, kidnappers and land grabbers, among others, have also not found it easy to carry out their dastardly acts freely as in the past.

“It is therefore in consideration of all these feats that the PCRC ‘B’ Division Mararaba decided unanimously to further motivate our brave, gallant and courageous CP Bello with an award of meritorious service,’’ he said.

The PCRC chairman pledged his members support to the command in fighting and preventing crime in the state in the interest of peace and national development.

He, however, appealed to the police commissioner to address the challenges of ‘B’ Division, including lack of manpower, dilapidated patrol vehicles, inadequate office structures and welfare, among others.

Responding, Bello thanked the PCRC for the award and dedicated it to God Almighty and his officers and men for their cooperation and support in tackling crime in the state.

“I am highly delighted and this award is for all police officers and men in Nasarawa state and the award will spur me, my officers and men to do more in ensuring peace and security in the state.

“I believe with the continued support and cooperation from the stakeholders and members of the public, we will succeed in combating crime in the state as we are going to do everything humanly possible to ensure that the people of the state sleep with their two eyes closed,” Bello said.

The commissioner of police called on residents to continue to give security agencies useful information that would help in combating crime in the state, assuring that such information will be treated with utmost confidentiality.
