Lagos State Government says it is set to deploy Close Circuit Television (CCTV) Cameras around the State as part of effort to have a 24-hour driven economy which would allow companies to operate in a safe and secure environment, thus increasing the Gross Domestic Products of the State.

The State Commissioner for Science and Technology, Mr. Olufemi Odubiyi made this known while fielding question at the 2017 Ministerial Press Briefing in commemoration of the 2nd Year in office of Governor Akinwunmi Ambode of Lagos State held at Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre, The Secretariat, Alausa,Ikeja.

According to him, “the CCTV initiative is in order to make Lagos a smart city where crime rate are reduce to barest minimal’’.

Odubiyi further explained that the State Government Vehicle Portal was designed to boost confidence of motorist in the authenticity of plate numbers issued by the government, stressing that the portal had improved the revenue generation of the State as more number plates had been registered since inception.

He hinted that the portal had helped to eliminate counterfeits and also served as a platform for the verification of number plates, thereby reducing fraud and counterfeit associated with vehicle registration.

On capacity building in tertiary institutions, the commissioner explained that the government, in collaboration with Afrione would be training students of tertiary institutions in areas that included mobile device assembly, repairs and management.

He added that Afrione had signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Lagos State Polythenic to provide internship opportunity for their students.

Odubiyi explained that the government had selected 43 public and 53 private schools as code centre from six education district of the states, stressing that the code Lagos is a computer initiative, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education which would be available to students from primary to tertiary education level.

He said that master trainers and facilitators of the programme had already been trained and would soon be deployed to selected schools and public libraries to facilitate the Code Lagos project.

Odubiyi stated that the objectives of the Code Lagos included creating a workforce that would be conversant with global trends and provide solutions to socio-economic problems; used technology to drive the economy and infrastructure development of the state and to make Lagos the technology frontier in Africa.
