2 Men Jailed For Punching Out Woman’s Tooth

Two men, who allegedly assaulted a woman, Amaka Emmanuel, by removing her front tooth with a punch, were on Monday brought before an Apapa Chief Magistrate’s’ Court in Lagos.

The accused, Caleb Olalekan, 47, and Joshua Zion, 22, both residents of Amuwo Odofin area of Lagos, pleaded not guilty to a two-count charge of conspiracy and grievous harm.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Tony Elibeh, told the court that the accused committed the offences on April 27 at 2nd Rainbow, Amuwo Odofin, Lagos.

Elibeh said that the accused assaulted the complainant by giving her a punch on the mouth and in the process, removed her front tooth.

He said the accused claimed that the woman was abusing them, “and they decided to teach her a lesson by beating her up’’.

The prosecutor said that Emmanuel reported the case to the police and the accused were arrested.

The offences, Elibeh noted, contravened Sections 411 and 243 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2015 (Revised).

Section 243 prescribes a seven- year jail term for grievous harm, if found guilty.

The Chief Magistrate, Mr Titus Abolarinwa, granted the accused bail in the sum of N100, 000 each and two sureties each, in like sum.

The case was adjourned until June 7, for mention.
