The Nigerian Police Force (NPF) is to establish two additional Area Commands in Zamfara to improve security in the state.

The Deputy Inspector-General of Police(DIG) in charge of Logistics and Supply, Maigari Dikko, disclosed this while addressing police officers and men at the Police Command headquarters, Gusau, on Thursday.

The DIG’s visit to the state was part of his tour of police formations in the North-West.

Dikko said the decision to establish new command offices across the country was to improve the security situation.

He said that his tour of the zone was part of the execution of the core mandate of the present leadership of the Nigerian Police Force (NPF).

“Part of the core mandate of the present administration of police is improving police and community relations.

“One of our duties in this tour is to interact with all stakeholders and members of the Police Eminent Persons Forum to improve cordial relationship between the police and the public.

“We have presented our request to the state government for the provision of land for the establishment of the new area commands,” he said.

He charged policemen in the state to be more dedicated to their duties and to show appreciation to the Police High Command for improving the welfare of police officers and men throughout the country.

According to him, the present leadership of the police has adopted various initiatives to improve the welfare of police officers.

The Commissioner of Police in the state, Mr Shaba Alkali, commended the DIG for the “timely” visit.

Alkali, however, said the command was facing shortage of manpower, vehicles and other logistics.

“Despite these challenges, we have been trying our best to fight insecurity in the state,” Shaba said.

The state government had promised to provide all necessary support for the quick take off of the two proposed area commands.
