The Katsina State Government has purchased 50 motorcycles worth N15 million for surveillance at Rugu forest in the state.

Alhaji Mustapha Inuwa, the Secretary to the State Government (SSG) said this during the presentation of the cycles on Wednesday in Katsina.

“The motorcycles will be distributed to selected cattle breeders and vigilante group members that will be carrying out surveillance in the forest.

“The government will give 25 machines to selected and trusted Fulani cattle breeders that will assist in maintaining peace in the areas where the repentant cattle rustlers reside.

“The state government will equally present 25 motorcycles to vigilance group members who complement the duties of the security agents in the seven local government areas where cattle rustlers operated.

“The government has registered the motorcycles with the state board of internal revenue and their particulars had been received,” he said.

The SSG said that the rustlers had repented and government had granted them amnesty, adding that explained the reason for introducing the surveillance.

Inuwa said that the Fulani and vigilance surveillance team would be working hand – in – hand with the security agencies in maintaining the existing peace.

According to him, the government will provide allowances to the five selected surveillance committees in the state.

The state government had engaged the repentant cattle rustlers in dialogue and granted them amnesty.
