Prof. Shehu Dalhatu,  the Rector of Nuhu Bamalli Polytechnic, Zaria, on Thursday said  only 5,795 students matriculated out of 17,125  admitted for the 2016/2017 academic session.

He made the disclosure at the matriculation of students for 2016/2017 academic session held at the main campus of the institute in Zaria, Kaduna State.

“A total of 26,325 applications were received from prospective candidates and 17,125 were given admission into the institution but only 5,795 registered and matriculated,” he said.

Dalhatu noted with satisfaction that the institution had steadily grown since its inception, saying the staff strength had also increased from 260 to 1,056 as at Jan. 31, 2017.

He attributed the steady progress being recorded in the institution to the hard working of staff, students’ discipline and financial support from Kaduna State Government.

“I must commend the efforts of Kaduna State Government for its resolve to turn the polytechnic into a centre of excellence and second to none among the existing polytechnics in the country.

“I must also acknowledge the support and contributions of TETFund to the institution in the provision of infrastructural facilities, teaching equipment as well as training of staff.

Dalhatu advised both new and continuing students to study hard and shun social vices capable of distracting their attention from studies.

Earlier, the Chairman of the occasion and former Rector of the institution, Alhaji Suleiman Aliyu advised the matriculating students to adhere strictly to the culture of learning and character while in school.

He charged the students to devote their time to their studies as it was a sure way of better future.

While congratulating the entire polytechnic community for the steady progress, Aliyu urged them to sustain the tempo of collective stride toward a common goal.
