Communities support Gov's super highway project

Some communities in Cross River, where the proposed 260km super highway project of Gov. Ben Ayade passes through, have pledged their support for the successful execution of the project.

A statement on Tuesday in Calabar, signed by Mr Smart Usang, Chief Press Secretary to the Deputy Governor of Cross River, Prof. Ivara Esu.

According to the statement, the communities pledged their support when Esu visited the areas to consult with the traditional rulers, youths, stakeholders and others, concerning the highway project.

The statement also said that the communities welcomed the projects, saying it will greatly open the various hinterlands to economic development and ease the burden of transportation borne by them over the years.

“In Ekuri community in Akamkpa local government area, the community promised to partner with the government in ensuring the timely implementation of the project.

“The Clan Head of Ekuri community, Mr Ebel Egbe, said that the visit by the deputy governor shows the seriousness the state government attached to the project.

“Leaders of youth organisations and women groups contended that the emerging super highway will help to create employment and add value to their farming activities.

“Also, people in Ogoja and Boki local government areas who came out en masse during the consultation visit thanked the state government for directing the roads through their communities.

“In all the communities visited during the consultations, the people maintained that the project has the capacity of turning the state’s economy around,’’ the statement added.
