European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker says “an attack on any of our member states is an attack on us all.’’

Juncker in a statement said: “the Swedish authorities can count on the European Commission to support them in any which way we can.’’

He expressed his condolences to the families of those injured and killed in a truck attack in central Stockholm.

“One of Europe’s most vibrant and colourful cities appears to have been struck by those wishing it and our very way of life harm,’’ Juncker said in a statement, adding that Europe stands “in solidarity’’ with the Swedish people.

In a related development, the police in Norway’s largest cities and at Oslo’s Airport would be carrying weapons until further notice following an attack in Stockholm, Norwegian Police said in a tweet.

Police officers in Norway, which borders Sweden, do not usually carry guns on them.

In Finland, police increased patrols in the capital Helsinki.

This development is followed by the death of three people who were killed when a truck drove into a crowd on a shopping street and crashed into a department store in central Stockholm, the police said.
