A Makurdi Magistrates Court on Thursday remanded a 32-year-old farmer, Stephen Ifeason, in prison over alleged criminal conspiracy and armed robbery.

Magistrate Franca Yuwa, who gave the order, directed the police to duplicate the case file and send a copy to the Director of Public Prosecution for advice.

She adjourned the case till May 16, for further mention.

When the case came up for mention, no plea was taken for want of jurisdiction.

The Prosecutor, Mr Adama Owochio, told the court that the case was reported verbally at the Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Dept (CIID), Makurdi, by Augustine Agada of Cabinet Office, Makurdi, on March, 5.

Owochio quoted the complainant as saying that while he was on his way home, he saw a lady, Patience Ali, at a junction before Tito Gate, Makurdi, screaming that she had just been robbed.

“Agada told the police that Ali told him that four young men attacked her at gunpoint, and robbed her of an Ipad phone and a smart black body spray.

“During police investigation, the smart black body spray was found with the accused person and he confessed to the crime.”

The prosecutor said that the offence contravened sections 6 (b) and 1(1) (2) (a) (b) of the Robbery and Firearms (special provision) Act 2004.

Owochio said that investigation into the matter was ongoing and applied for adjournment to enable the police to conclude investigation.
