Ikpeazu Commends Nigerian Military

Gov. Okezie Ikpeazu of Abia has expressed satisfaction with the performance of the Nigerian military in tackling security challenges confronting the nation.

Okezie made his feelings known on Tuesday when the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 82 Division of the Nigeria Army, Enugu, Maj.-Gen. Adamu Abubakar, paid him a courtesy visit at Government House, Umuahia.

He hailed the military for their efforts and gallantry, especially in battling the Boko Haram insurgency in the North-East.

“The time to battle violent crime has come and the Federal Government should acquire trackers for states and deduct the money used to purchase them from the states’ allocation by installment over a period of time.

“We know that such gadgets will help security agencies to meet up with the fight against crime in the states.”

Describing Aba as the capital of small and medium enterprises in Nigeria, he said that the city needed adequate security of lives and property for commerce to continue to thrive in the area.

The governor, who commended the military personnel serving in the state for their professional conduct, said that the people reposed great confidence in them.

He solicited their assistance toward government’s eforts to reduce crime and the menace of drug abuse in the state.

Earlier in his speech, Abubakar thanked the state government for its support to the 14 Brigade of the Nigerian Army, located at Ohafia.

He said that the Nigerian Army was committed to providing security in the state, especially in Aba, because of its significant contribution to the nation’s socio-economic development.

He promised to reinforce the 14 Brigade to enable it to continue to discharge its duties in the area creditably.
