Housewife remanded for murder of 3-year-old step-daughter

A 20- year-old housewife, Khadija Mohammed, was on Thursday remanded in prison custody by a Makurdi Magistrates’ Court for alleged murder of her step-daughter.

The plea of the defendant was not taken as the court lacked the jurisdiction to hear the case, while the Magistrate, Mrs Ajuma Igama, adjourned the case till March 28, for further mention.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Joel Yusuf, told the court that the case was reported at the ‘A’ Division Police Station, Makurdi, by one Abdulrahaman Abdullahi.

Abdullahi who lives at No.14 Lessel St., Wadata Makurdi, reported the matter on Feb. 22, 2017.

The complainant stated that, he discovered the corpse of his 3-year-old daughter Khadija Abdulrahaman, of the same address, at an uncompleted building at Wadata riverside.

He further stated that the deceased was last seen with the accused person who happens to be her step-mother.

During police investigation, the accused of No. 14 Lessel St. Wadata Makurdi was arrested and confessed to committing the crime.

The accused person confessed that she used a cement block to hit the deceased to death.

Yusuf said that investigation into the matter was still in progress and asked the court for an adjournment.

He said that the offence contravened the provisions of Section 222 of the Penal Code Law of Benue State, 2004.
