A 40-year-old man, Taiwo Olawole, was on Friday arraigned in an Okitipupa Magistrates’ Court, Ondo State, for allegedly beating up a female colleague, one Omolola Olayinmi.

The accused, a tailor of no fixed address, is standing trial on one-count charge of unlawful assault.

The prosecutor, Insp. Zedekiah Orogbemi, told the court that the accused on Jan. 23, around 12:30 p.m. at Ikoya in Okitipupa, inflict various degrees of injuries on Olayinmi which caused her bodily harm.

The prosecutor said that Olayinmi was trying to enforce the Tailoring Association rules to seize sewing machine of any erring member who refused to attend meeting, when fracas broke out.

He said that the offence was contrary to Section 355, Criminal Code, Cap.37, Vol.1, Laws of Ondo State 2006.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge levelled against him.

The Magistrate, Mr Banji Ayeomoni, granted the accused bail in the sum of N50,000 and a surety each in like sum and adjourned the case till Feb. 9 for further hearing.
