Chief Rotimi Akeredolu, Governor-elect of Ondo State, says the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) is conducting acceptable elections.

Akeredolu made the observation on Wednesday in an interview with newsmen in his hometown, Owo, Ondo State.

The governor-elect spoke shortly after the expiration of the statutory time for institution of a legal action against his election.

Akeredolu contested on the platform of the All Progressive Congress (APC) in the Nov. 26 gubernatorial poll.

The 30-day period within which a petition can be made against the election result has ended without any petition filed at the tribunal.

“It is not because I won the election. I believe INEC is perfecting its act. It is moving toward conducting acceptable elections.

“If INEC gets to that level, many more elections will not be contested at the tribunal,” he said.

Akeredolu noted that his fellow contestants exhibited a sense of maturity by not challenging his victory.

He specifically hailed Peoples Democratic Party and Alliance for Democracy candidates, adding that the absence of a petition showed that the election was free and fair.

He said that the absence of a petition would eliminate distraction from his administration.

“No doubt when you take out distraction, you are in a better frame of mind.

“It gives us more time to execute other programmes and hit the ground running.
