The Trade Union Congress (TUC) has commended Gov. Ifeanyi Ugwuanyi for the prudent management of the state’s resources which had led to the constant payment of workers’ salaries.

The TUC was reacting to a report of BudgIT, a data organization, which listed Enugu among the only three states in the federation that were fulfilling obligations to their workers.

Mr. Chukwuma Igbokwe, the Chairman of Enugu State Chapter of TUC, told NAN on Friday in Enugu that the report indicated “sheer dexterity and commitment’’ of the governor to industrial harmony in the state.

Igbokwe said that the verdict of BudgIT was objective and represented the true position of things in Enugu State on the manner the management of the resources in the overall interest of the people.

“Gov Ugwuanyi has shown an exceptional display of quality leadership for his administration to pay salaries regularly.

“The governor has equally shown resilience in his resolve to still execute capital projects, despite the current economic crisis in the country.

“Also, for Enugu State to be listed alongside Lagos and Rivers States as the only states in the federation still able to meet their recurrent needs, shows Gov. Ugwuanyi’s visionary leadership and commitment to the wellbeing of the people,’’ he said.

NAN recalls that a recent publication by BudgIT reported that 33 out of the 36 states of the federation were unable to fulfill recurrent obligations to their workers.

It identified Enugu, Lagos, and Rivers States as the three states still able to meet their recurrent needs.
