DSS operatives
A trader at the Eke Market in Awka, disclosed that some hawkers of foreign currencies were arrested.
He said that the DSS operatives also carted away huge sums of foreign currencies seized from the hawkers.
“We scampered for our lives when we saw them inside the market in the early hours of the day because no one knew their mission initially.
“They took over the market until later when we were able to find out their mission,’’ he said.
A senior official of the DSS, who confirmed the raid under condition of anonymity, said that they acted on directive.
He said that the exercise also took place in Onitsha, while other major markets in the state would also be raided.
“We are worried that some commercial banks’ officials were conniving with the hawkers in the markets to destabilise the government efforts to sale the foreign currencies at cheaper rates.
“The economy is seriously affected by the actions of the illegal hawkers of foreign currencies.
“Our objective is to bring sanity in the system and let Nigerians procure the foreign currencies at government regulation,’’ he said.
He urged them to go and secure licence to legalise their business operations.

@Jasper,you will be the one to receive punishment for your support of wickedness, why should government be supplying foreign currency to banks and they instead make it difficult for people to buy so they can supply their black market and make huge profits? they can hawk foreign exchange in Lagos and whereever I don’t give a hoot, let banks sell it at bank rate in Onitsha,it will make thing easier for business people if they can walk into a bank and get forex like done in other countries, must Nigerians survive only through criminality? which country allows that?
This raid is going on simultaneously everywhere in the country, please make wider consultations before making this kind of comments and accusations.
God will punish Buhari and his demonic agents of destructions, DSS. All the nook and cranny of Lagos and various states are filled with Hausa foreign currency exchangers. He couldn’t send his agents against the Hausas, notorious for foreign currency transactions. INJUSTICE!! at it’s best, How do I start blaming NDIGBO and Nnamdi Kanu for calling for the disintegration of Nigeria when injustices such as this, remains a reoccurring decimal under this vindictive and backward government. MAI CHANJI. What A Government!! What A Change!! What A Ruler!! Nonsense.
