Surulere residents to face prosecution

The Department of Environment in Surulere Local Government on Saturday served over 10 houses in Surulere Area Notices to appear before the Court for constituting hazards to the environment.

The Sole Administrator, Surulere Local Government, Mr Sheriff Balogun, made the disclosure in Lagos, during the sanitation exercise.

Balogun said that the environmental department had served the respective houses and also served the owners of some scraped cars parked along the street, Notices to evacuate them from the environment.

Some houses along Rufai St., Makinde St., Oladehinde St, Surulere, Lagos, were affected.

“We usually go around the streets during sanitation days with officers in the environmental department of the council.

“We have been able to discover a shop built on top of the drain which is not allowing water to flow in Rufai St.

“We are able to discover leakages of sewage which can also cause environmental pollution.

“We have been sensitising residents of Surulere constantly and majority of them have been able to realise the importance of living in a clean environment, ‘’ Balogun said.

He, however, expressed the need to constantly clean the environment, adding that “a healthy environment is a healthy living’’.
