Sokoto State Government has set up five emergency mobile clinics to tackle Malaria outbreak in Sarkin-Adar Gandu area of Sokoto North Local Government.

Prof. Bashir Garba, the Secretary to the State Government, made the disclosure on Monday when he visited primary health centres in Kofar-Kade, Assada, Kofar-Rini and Runjin-Sambo areas of Sokoto.

Garba said that the mobile clinics would provide free medical services to patients in the area.

He advised the residents to improve their personal and environmental hygiene, in order to save themselves from contracting diseases.

He said, “The visit was sequel to a directive by Gov. Aminu Tambuwal for us to come and see things for ourselves.

“This is due to some deaths recently recorded in these areas related to some cases of severe malaria.

“We are here, therefore, to commiserate with the families of the deceased.”

Dr Balarabe Kakale, the state Commissioner of Heath, said the government had provided adequate drugs to health facilities across the state to contain the malaria outbreak.

Kakale said a monitoring team had been set up to ensure that the drugs were dispensed free to patients.

He disclosed that the government had fumigated all communities against mosquitoes and intensified efforts at evacuating refuse.
