Gombe urged to grant free education to physically-challenged persons

Alhaji Umaru Goro, Councillor representing Muna ward in Balanga Local Government Area of Gombe state, has appealed to the state government to grant free education to physically challenged persons in the state.

Goro, who is also the Chairman of Joint Association of Persons with Disabilities (JAPWD) in the state, made the appeal in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Gombe on Tuesday.

He said that most of his members were from humble families deserving of free education.

According to him, the state government’s investment in the education sector has helped his members secure the requirements for admission to higher institutions of learning.

He noted that such brilliant members who could contribute their quota to the advancement of the state, should not be denied access to higher education on the account of their humble background.

Goro commended Gov. Ibrahim Dankwambo for appointing some of his members into political office in the state as well as empowering many others.

He also stressed the need for public and private structures to have facilities that would enable physically-challenged persons gain easy access to such structures.
