A Gudu Upper Area Court in Abuja on Thursday sentenced a 26-year-old applicant, Ashiru Idris, to 16 weeks imprisonment for criminal trespass.

The Upper Area court judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, sentenced the convict when he pleaded guilty to the charge and gave him an option of fine of N12, 000 as fine.

Kagarko warned him to desist from committing crime.

He said that Idris’ sentence should be effective from June 14 when he was remanded in prison custody.

Idris, of Area 1, Dagba, Abuja, was arraigned on a four-count charge of criminal conspiracy, mischief, criminal trespass and attempt to commit an offence of housebreaking and theft.

The Prosecutor, Donaldtus Abah, had told the court that Commissioner of Police Austin Iwar of Apo, Abuja, reported the matter at the Apo Police Station on June 9.

Abah said Idris and one Anas, now at large, cut the electric fence wire of the complainant’s compound and entered the compound.

He further said that in the process of breaking the window to gain entrance into the house, Idris was caught and arrested while Anas escaped.

He said the offences contravened sections 348, 327 and 97 of the Penal Code.

Idris pleaded guilty but begged for leniency.
