Marketer docked for stealing pharmaceutical products

A 35-year-old marketer, Edith Obianuju, who allegedly stole pharmaceutical products valued at N2,215,000 from her employer, on Thursday appeared before an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court, Lagos.

Obianuju, who resides at Toma Estate, Owutu, Ikorodu, Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of stealing and obtaining under false pretences.

The prosecutor, Sgt. Michael Unah told the court that the accused committed the offences sometime between May 2015 and August 2016 at Al-tinez Pharm. Ltd., in Ilupeju area of Lagos.

He said that the accused, who was an employee of the company, sold pharmaceutical products valued at N2,215,000 to customers without remitting the proceeds from the sales to the company.

“Obianuju converted proceeds made from sales to her own personal use and lied to her employer that their customers had refused to pay,” Unah said.

The prosecutor said that the offences committed contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

However, the accused pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Section 285 prescribes three-year jail term for stealing while Section 312 stipulates 15 years imprisonment for obtaining under false pretence.

The Senior Magistrate, Mrs A.O Gbajumo, admitted the accused to bail in the sum of N500,000, with two sureties in like sum.

Gbajumo adjourned the case till Sept. 26 for mention.
