A Karmo Upper Area Court in the FCT on Tuesday sentenced a 25-year-old man, Yaknan David to two months imprisonment for stealing an electricity prepaid meter.
David of no fixed address was sentenced on a two-count charge of criminal trespass and theft which he admitted.
In his judgment, the presiding officer, Mohammed Abubakar, gave the convict an option of fine of N8,000 and warned him to desist from the life of crime.
Abubakar ordered that the electricity prepaid meter be returned to the owner.
Prosecuting counsel, Mrs. David Kafancha, had told the court that on Aug. 2, Samuel Ada of ABM Plaza, Utako, Abuja, reported the matter at the Utako Police Station.
Kafancha said that the convict criminally trespassed into the complainant’s premises and stole the electricity prepaid meter valued N30,000.
She told the court that during police investigation and interrogation, the stolen electricity prepaid meter was recovered from the convict and that he also admitted committing the crime.
The prosecutor said the offences contravened sections 343 and 287 of the Penal Code.
