Man docked over N850,000 visa fraud

A 43-year-old man, Paul Echecube, was on Thursday arraigned at an Ikeja Magistrates’ Court in Lagos for allegedly obtaining N850,000 under false pretence.

Echecube, who resides at No 9 Animashaun St. Ojodu, a suburb of Lagos, is facing a two-count charge of obtaining money by false pretence and stealing.

The Prosecutor, Insp. Okumiose Clement told the court that the accused committed the offence sometime in January at Makirun St., Ojodu, Lagos.

Clement said that the accused collected N850, 000 from Nnadi Chinoso on the pretext of procuring a Dubai visa for the complainant.

“But the accused failed to fulfil the agreement he made with the complainant,” said the prosecutor.

He said that the offences contravened Sections 285 and 312 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State, 2011.

The accused, however, pleaded not guilty.

The Magistrate, S.Y. Okunsanya, granted the accused N100, 000 bail with two sureties in like sum and subsequently adjourned the case to Aug. 28 for mention.
